The Kickoff

October 28th, the Springstead Eagles Varsity Football team took on the Pasco Pirates.  The night was filled with anticipation and excitement, as the players make their way on the field. The crowd is adorned in pink, as are the football players, to represent for cancer awareness. It was a great pink out!

The First Quarter starts with a kick-off from the Pirates and #27, Randy Morgan took it to the house and scored the first touchdown for the night. The Eagles took the 7 point lead thanks to #5, Max Gabbard, who kicked in the extra point. The Pirates fought their way back on the next drive and kicked a field goal. It was not enough to stop the Eagles confidence and momentum. On the next offensive possession, Randy Morgan and the Eagles O struck again taking a well timed screen pass 71 yards to the endzone. The Pirates clawed back quickly and sliced through the Eagles’ defense scoring their first TD. However, the Eagles answered with Demetrius Berry shuffling through the Pirates’ defense earning another hard fought touchdown, the PAT was unsuccessful this time. Wrapping the First Quarter up, Eagles 20 – Pirates 10.

The Second Quarter began with a speedy touchdown delivered from #2, Nathan Sims. The Eagles soared! With a successful PAT, the score was now 27-10. The team worked hard to communicate and encourage each other throughout the night. The Pirates try to run through the Eagles defense but were quickly shut down by big stops from #28, Adrian Cabrera and #30, Justin Muriel.  However, the Eagles answered before the end of the quarter with another touchdown by QB, #14 Jordan Wright as well as a successful PAT. Now the score was 34-10 and the Pirates were trying very hard to break through Eagles; D before the half, but #23, Isiah Delgado had different plans. Delgado picked off the Pasco QB to wrap up the 1st Half.

The Third Quarter started with the same hype and electricity the Eagles had in the 1st half. #18, Parker Knight started the 2nd half off with a pooch kick to the 30 yard line. #55, Zach Lawrence and the rest of the Eagles’ O-line showed the true meaning of being an Eagle and paved the way for Randy Morgan  and the Eagles’ O to score 2 more TDs. That made 4 on the night for Mr. Morgan. Max Gabbard finished the night off 6-7 on PATs to bring the score to 48-10. The Pirates’ threatened late, but #2, Nate Sims came through again with an interception to stop their momentum. With that, the third quarter was done but Eagle Pride was riding high.

The Fourth Quarter initiated with even louder screams and cheers from the Eagle Country crowd. The Pirates were finally able to crack the Eagles’ defense and scored tacking on a 2 point conversion making the score 48-18. The Pirates never had another chance to slip through as the Eagles’ D slammed the door on them and finished off the game. With the clock ticking down the Eagles were proclaimed the winners. The team was greeted with a loud roar of approval.  #55 Zach Lawrence voiced that “I believe Randy Morgan did his best tonight.” and #28 Adrian Cabrera, thoughts were that“ The game was fun, we all worked well together and it just shows how hard we work”. Springstead Eagle pride was a mighty sight!
